James Franklin Jett 1933-2009
James Franklin Jett was born December 2, 1933 to Grace Sylvia (Wyer) Jett and James Napoleon Jett.
Jimmy was raised in Springfield and grew up helping in the family business, Jett Hardware and Lumber Co. He was a classmate of the Springfield class of 1952.
On July 23, 1950 Jim married Laverne Ewing and to this union two children were born, Sharla Ann, in 1951 and Steven Dirk in 1955.
Jim enjoyed taking his family to Two Buttes Lake and water skiing behind their 16 ft. Century boat, affectionately called the Baracuda, which was constructed of mahogany. Jim enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing and flying in his single and twin engine Cessna’s.
Jim later married Fleeta Hicks in 1973 and they moved to Taos, New Mexico for a couple of years. Their love of the water eventually led them to seaside residences where they could enjoy the oceans and their splendor. Jim lived in Kaneohe, Hawaii for approximately 20 years where he obtained his real estate license and started his own company.
It was while he was in Hawaii that Jim acquired the nick name KIMO which stuck with him the rest of his life. They then moved to Bayfield, Colorado where he built a log home and enjoyed everything but the winter.
But his love of the ocean once again lured him to the far away beaches, this time in Mexico. He eventually settled in San Carlos, Sonora Mexico and once again opened a business as San Carlos Vacations.
He thoroughly enjoyed helping family, friends and new acquaintances find the perfect vacation rental, charter fishing boats and ATV rentals. Jim had made many new friends while in Mexico, Hawaii and Taos but still called Springfield home, never forgetting his roots and the great people of Baca County.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Grace, in 1950; his two two sisters, Mauverdene in 1976 and June in 1983; his stepmother, Myrtle in 1977; and his father, James in 1990.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Sharla and her husband Randy of Springfield; his son, Steve and his wife Karen of Springfield; grandchildren, Bethany Cooper of Springfield and Nathaniel Cooper of Strasburg; Todd Jett, Page Jett and Abby Jett of Greeley and great grandchildren, Shaiyann Chenoweth and Jett Konkel of Springfield. Also surviving Jim is his brother Charles Jett and wife, Nellie Ruth of Pueblo and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim enjoyed his special friends, Donna Jett, Judy Sanchez, Lou Ann Konkel, Barry and Val Coates, Todd Mathis and many others.
This past year Jim was beset with Type II Diabetes and he was in the process of returning to the USA for consultation and treatment but passed away from a heart attack on Monday morning, April 13, 2009, the morning he was to leave San Carlos.
To see the twinkle in Jim’s eye one would only have to mention his family or the ocean and you could immediately see the affection he had for both. KIMO, we will miss you!
